Next week Nokia will unveil its first touch screen phone in London event, October 2, 2008. This phone will priced cheaper than any existing rival touch screen model. Nokia Tube also known as 5800 XpressMedia touchscreen cell phones.

Numerous popular touch screen phones has been released by LG Electronics, Apple and Samsung Electronics.

Nokia research touchs user interface based on S60 model, specialize to handle touchscreen, from touchscreen only, touchscreen with keypad, and touchscreen with QWERTY keyboard. Touch UI support tactile feedback, just like press physical button.

The application already running well on Symbian 3rd edition. And provided UI Accelerator Kit to create fantastic graphic and application.

After announced at press conference in Japan tonight by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, Nintendo DS-i will has more additional hardware specs.

Compared with previous Nintendo DS Lite, the slimmer Nintendo DS-i has:

  • 3.25 inches screen display (0.25 inches larger than previous)
  • SD card slot
  • Featuring plug-n-play with Wii Photo Channel
  • Dual 3 MP cameras inside and outside
  • Dual touchscreen
  • Built-in web browser
  • Support Nintendo DS Store
  • Can play MP3 through SD cards
  • Two color option: white and grey
  • but remove the Game Boy Advanced slot
With additional SD card slot, it will solved Wii Shop game storage overflow problem.

Nintendo DS-i will be available on November 1st, 2008 in Japan for US$180 and will ship all over the world in 2009. You can also check out the official Japanese Nintendo DS-i site.

Sony introduced a new electronic book reader on October 2, 2008 in New York, the Sony PRS-700.

With 6 inch touch-screen display, LED front-lighting, up to 350 e-books storage (add optional removable Memory Stick Duo media or SD memory cards for more) and faster processor (compared with PRS-505) it will be the reason that the retail price comes out in November will be around US$400 (PRS-505 priced at US$300).

It use gesture-based commands for easy navigation. To display next or previous page we can swipe our finger across the display which can be set in the settings menu to choose between left or right direction.

Five pre-set text sizes are available. You also possible to highlight the words using stylus or finger. It also has a virtual keyboard to add annotations.

What are the file formats that can be read using PRS-700? According to the press release, this device can read Adobe PDF documents with reflow capability, Microsoft Word documents, BBeB files and many other text file formats but it had to be convert first with the included PC software called eBook Library 2.5 (i got download link for eBook Library 6.2.2 from Custom Solutions of Maryland). Sony PRS-700 also has capability to store and display EPUB files even work with Adobe Digital Editions software.

I think SOny PRS-700 better than previous PRS-505 even with the Amazon Kindle or the first e-ink touch-screen reader iRex.
